~~Night at Grey Gardens~~

4 January 2010

There were no lamps burning no lights between my army cot in the library and the center bedroom. That is the name of the room where Mrs.Beale and Edie slept a named I alone gave to this room. It was my way keeping track of the goings on at Grey Gardens. That dark night I had been unable to sleep there was a lot of commotion in the ceiling above the library. Unable to sleep I did muster up the courage to leave the dark library and find my footing on the main staircase. It took me time and a great deal of guts, {courage}. You see I did not want to over extend my welcome at Mrs.Beales home. I proceeded to the center bedroom door it was ajar; it could never had been closed completely due to its having been warped by rain.
There just in the room was the serene chaos. Mrs.Beale was sound asleep, Edie was too, the cats on theses beds noticed my looking through the door, then retuned to what looked like a very comfortable position.
The radio had been left on and the static from this radio made me want to enter the room and shut it off.
You know something my heart broke that dark night in Grey Gardens.

Neither Mrs.Beale nor Edie ever knew of my wandering about the mansion that night, yet I grew into a man that night and knew I had been given the responsibility to help these forgotten human beings.
That night I knew that I was not the only forgotten human being in this world.
It took me most of that night to find a restful place in my mind that would allow me the luxury of sleeping
.

~~Vintage Grey Gardens~~

1 January 2010

Just returned from a very busy Manhattan,  Friday night is on and the night is young.
I `m going to walk you through the second floor of the mansion:
You have the boy’s bedroom, this is the memorabilia room. It is the northern peak looking directly at the mansion. There was a closet between this room and Mrs. Beales room, the yellow room you referred to, and this room had two French doors that concealed a bath tub. The wall directly behind this was the dumbwaiter room with access in the upstairs hallway near the entrance to the attic. The stairs you see Edie descending down are the attic stairs and the only entrance to the third floor or, the attic. The next room was also a bath room with a working toilet, sinks, and closets. The nursery was the last room on the eastern portion of the mansion. Aside the nursery was the back stair which led into the maid’s dining room. Later this was replaced during the renovation with a spiral staircase.
There are goals I ve set for this New Year 2010, one is to recall every section of what I call Vintage Grey Gardens. Time had stopped in the mansion, on the brightest summer days thick overgrowth on most of the mansions windows kept the rooms dark with shadows.
