~~The Mansion at Grey Gardens~~
That summer afternoon the surf was rough, leaving swimming out of the question.I had finished my chores at Mr. Geddes estate, returned the riding lawn mower to the gardeners shed. It was for all accounts a splendid afternoon, little did I know that a decision to ride my bicycle down a country road I had yet to explore., was about to change my life forever.
My blue pugeot ten speed bicycle was my pride and joy, I kept it so that the spokes would reflect the sun bright and carefree. Then the road began to narrow, the privet hedge was now feet tall, as tall as any tree nearby. My first sense was that of a coolness from the great shade of privet some 30 feet in height. It was customary for me to ride hands free, sitting well balanced on my ten speed.
My balance was lost my footing as well, my sneaker was lodged between the pavement and the bicycle pedal,it was my first glance at the peaks of this mansion.Struggling to regain my balance , my only thought was to regain my posture and try to understand what I have just discovered.
It was vintage Grey Gardens, just exactly as this photo shows. If you look carefully you will see a person sitting on a lawn chair,it is Mrs .Beale .
