~~Al Maysles & Edie Beale Grey Gardens ~~

12 January 2013

Years had passed, a time once as rare in my life as any since, Al had asked me to take this photograph. The actually moment had long been forgotten, only this recently discovered photograph stirred my memory. Then looking , into the mirror behind my friends, I began to recall the day. All the days at the mansion were memorable, either before the filming began ,or during . It was that rare precious time in my life that tender photographs allow me to recall the days at Mrs. Beales mansion. This photo was taken in the centre bedroom,( a title I gave to the smallest, easiest to keep warm, and the only room left adjacent to a working bathroom). The actually request for me to hold that enormous camera, to take this photo escapes me,the moments we did share have become all that more cherished. It is my pleasure to share what I long ago discovered, and still find as fascinating.
We are in the early days of a New Year 2013, my prayers are for my friends is all that I wish for myself, peace, light. your buddy ,Jerry The Marble Faun

  1. I am ravenous for any tid-bit of information about Big and little Edie so thanks for posting this photo.
Little Edie was such a outrageous flirt but that was a big part of her charm. I love her.

In the films she seemed to really go for David but he must not have been flirtatious with her -even in jest where as Al had a lively and free personality and he teased her (all in fun)so I could see her attentions and attraction turning more toward Al and here you have given us a photo that proves it.

I have always thought Al was the more handsome of the two brothers and had a more likable personality. He’s the one I would have went for. haha
Al is amazingly handsome in this photo. Thanks a millions times over for posting this.
    God’s Blessing on you Jerry
