~~As The Years Went By~~

26 November 2011

For many years I’d pass the newly renovated Grey Gardens. Through those years I’ve yet to see any color chosen that works. One time the frames on both the boy’s bedroom windows and master bedroom was salmon color.

Naturally I have nothing to do with the colors of the house or ever had in what was to be the fate of Mrs. Beales Mansion.

For the time I spent at Grey Gardens it was my home. I cherish that memory. I always loved the mansion.. When I was invited out with Al, it was once again mine for a short moment.

The sense of having lived and experienced our time at Grey Gardens probably the most richly sentimental moment in my life.

  2. Yea!!LOve your posts, Jerry. I’m thinking of visitng New York next Spring/Summer mainly to see Grey Gardens in person. I Google-Earthed it and it was like solving a mystery, finding it next to Georgica Beach. I just read Lois Wrights book and got the big, coffee table one by the Maysles girls. The CD included was great with the voices of the Beales. I feel like I know them, those ladies- kindred spirits.

I love it, love them. thanks for sharing….

  3. Thanks Jerry,I often think about the Grey Gardens today and wonder if it anything like it was when Mrs.Beale(Happy Birthday)first lived there.I know it is a moment captured in time when you were at home there. You said the books were still in the library.Happy Thanksgiving to you and Ted and a Happy Advent Season to you. Thanks Brother,Pattie

  4. I drove by there two summers ago. I believe the house then was painted gray and light teal. It was an amazing, magical experience for me. I turned 12 years old in the summer of 1972. Sometimes when I think back to that time in my life, my thoughts also return to The Gray Gardens. Thinking of sleeping in my bed upstairs at my parent’s house, the Beales were asleep in their shared bedroom at Gray Gardens. It was so many, many years ago and yet at times, it seems like only yesterday.

    • Greetings Nancy, Paul,Shawn,
For all the years that have past, with just a glance at the mansion, it remains that magic. It my friends has been as fascinating tonight as it was the first day I looked at the peaks of the great house.
I like to slow my thinking down and carefully recall, my first days at the mansion. Waiting for Edie to open the greaat door, was such a thrill, I would always be especially grateful to be a quest.
The fact that there where time had stood still I was now allow to wonder.
I was just as fascinated then as i am tonight. thank you my friends for feeling this wonder!
      Jerry
