Grey Gardens In North Carolina

4 February 2010

Dear Friends,

I’m pleased to announce I’ll be attending Queen City Theatre’s production of Grey Gardens in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Queen City Theatre Company production stars Alyson Lowe in the double role of Edith Bouvier Beale in Act One and Little Edie Beale in the Act Two.

Alyson Lowe has been seen on stage before for Queen City Theatre Company in her Metrolina Theatre Association nominated role of Daisy Hilton in the musical Side Show.

Polly Adkins, a Charlotte theatre veteran portrays the demanding role of Mrs. Edith Beale in Act Two.

The cast also includes Billy Ensley as George Gould Strong, Karen Christensen as Young Edie, Joe Ermen-Dupree in the double role of Joe Kennedy and Jerry, William Stroupe as Major Bouvier and Norman Vincent Peale,  Jes Dugger, a regular to the Queen City Stage as Jacqueline Bouvier, Amanda Leigh Berkowitz as Lee Bouvier, and James Walker as Brooks Sr. and Jr.

I am eagerly anticipating seeing this new production which has been getting GREAT reviews.  I was recently interviewed by the local paper The Charlotte Observer about my time at Grey Gardens, you may view the article here.

It is a continuing source of joy for me to see my dear friends the Beales be portrayed by so many talented performers.  Hats off to Queen City Theatre for putting this production together, if you are able to attend purchase a ticket here and I’ll see you there!

All the best,

Jerry

  1. Jerry,

I just read your interview with the Observer. It was so nice to know that you were there for Big Edie during her death. I am sure her soul desired you to be there and perhaps she saw that in you. You could tell though the documentary, your light (aura) excited her deeply. A friendly hand, two people who loved her deeply, to help journey to the other side. My father was swept away by heroin in those days, he had a plumbing business in Westchester NY at the age of 18. Needless to say the drugs won! My mother said we were neighbors with Allen Funt, and Bob Hope, but of course I was very little The article was great! I so want to see the documentary!

    I love you!

It was everywhere in our culture, New York City the East Village and it destroyed the lives of so many friends.
You see what beagn as a thrill had taken over and robbed me of my life. I recall my battle cry”I want my life back”!
That was easier said then done, and it took alot of work to surrender to the fact that I was addicted.
Then of course when I addresed the reality of my addiction I began to work on my recovery, and getting my life back.
I missed my life, I was all alone with this terrible darkness, that was very powerful.
Im free and clean now 18 years from the darkness, and shall never again entertain such madness.
Ive been given the chance to live once again, and through my experience have attempted to reach those who choose to live and to be free of addiction and the desperate lonely
Ive now the courage to admit I was lost and have been found, if I can help one seeking to recover ,here Iam .
      forever friends

  3. I just found out that you will be here in Charlotte for the production of Grey Gardens! Sincerely hope that I am able to attend both the musical and your talk!

    Thanks!

  4. Jerry,

Did I understand the article in the Charlotte Observer to state that you live in the borough of Queens here in New York? I, too, live in Queens and forgive me for not knowing, but are your sculptures shown somewhere here in Queens as well? How I would love to see “Pairs”. I hope you will keep everyone posted on the documentary being produced-directed by Jason Hay. MERDE!! (as we say in show business) to the Queens City Theater Company for their production of Grey Gardens. How I wish I could be there to see it too!!!

    • ~~Hi Suzanne~~
Ive lived here for years now, and my hope is to have show of my sculptures this year in a local Art Gallery.
The legacy of Mrs.Beales Grey Gardens had me intrigued from the very day I first looked at the twin peaks of the mansion. Having been intrusted with such a rare and personal friendship my duty is to there legacy.
      friends forever

  6. I think Grey Gardens is playing everywhere. I just saw our production of Grey Gardens at the Unicorn theater here in Kansas City loved it…Of course me and a friend had to dress like the Beales the audience thought we were part of the production because we were in character.
