~~Pre Dawn~~
3 March 2010
Good very early morning Grey Gardeners,
The wind chimes in my garden woke me, Sherman is looking into my bedroom window wanting to come in from the dawn.
The Sun has not yet reached the horizon , today is ours my friends, to make all we can of it, so I’m here , your here, and the dawn is one hour away.
It has taken my years to reach this point in my life where I could work as an artist working with my hands pursuing ideas in stone & some in clay.
Once heard from a wise friend that God gives us choices, along our way, if any choice could be ours this day let us choose to share ideas.

I have an intense love of the form of the horse. When moving your hands across the flesh of the animal its overwhelming to feel its muscles and the way they move in response to my hands. Glad you are working on this subject. BTW, I just finished watching the Documentary AGAIN, and wonder what little Edie truly thought of you. She says some not so nice things when she thinks you aren’t looking and even accused you of being there to “be” with her, and believed you were the (I think immaginary) book thief. However, Mrs. Beale was kind to you.
Two roads diverged in yellow wood,
and sorry I could not travel both
I took the one less traveled by
And that has made all the difference
Peace,
Phyllis
Sherman always loves the up & coming spring season in the garden.
Good Morning Jerry!!
Well, as I look out my window this morning I see no sun, but little flakes of snow falling once again, letting us know that we must be patient in our desire for spring to approach.
I could not have been more delighted when on Valentine’s Day my son gave me the set of DVDs that included the original Documentary of Grey Gardens and an additional DVD that featured film clips not included in the original.
It was fun to see you as a young man with the Beales. Were you aware at the time that Edie viewed your presence as a threat in gaining her mother’s affection?
I could not help thinking there was a real risk of fire in the house by the Beales cooking near Edith’s bed in that one room they occupied. So, it was horrifing to see the scene when Edie was aware there was a fire somewhere in the house, but unable to find it. I gather you were not there at the time, but fortunately the Maysles were and obviously were quick to put it out. Did they ever tell you about it and did they ever find out what caused it? I felt that scene should have been included in the original documentary.
There were things, too, that I wondered about but you may not have questioned nor did they confide to you….
Did either Edie or her mother ever mention why Edie always kept her head covered or did you ever accidently see her head unoovered? There still is speculation as to whether she lost her hair due to Alopecia or that she burned it off.
I also noticed that Little Edie was always wearing what appeared to be a wedding band on her left hand. Was there any significance to that ring whe wore?
You did say that you were writing a book of your experiences with Beales. Perhaps you will then fill in the blanks.
As you said, “God gives us choices along the way”. If Little Edie were alive today, I wonder how she would respond to the question “Do you have any regrets in your life”?

Hello Suzanne
In the years since Grey Gardens my fondness of those cherished memories have meant more to with each passing year.
Yes Im writing my book which will answer these guestions. At the time I was unaware of any threat Edie had felt due to Mrs.Beales affections twords me,yet as the years have passed they have been understood.
Im certain now that due to my age at the time our friendship was everthing we both needed, as I was trusted, and needed to be loved . Mrs.Beale was a mother to me, I can not imagine my lifes path without having been takin under the wing of Mrs.Beale.
It was always an honor to have been welcomed into the very reclusive lives of both Mrs.Beale and her daughter Edie.
My feeling is that Edie may have felt she would have been trapped once again due to my having moved in,as was the case during the years of Gould & T.Logan.
Please except this token of my friendship , may as I welcome you to my website.
yours
Jerry
