~~Ruins~~
Greetings to all my friends, It has been a year of blessings.
We are all a part of this experience called life. Ive set my hands to work in stone subjects. They have endured time itself, I first was drwan to stone sculpture when my dear mother Helen had taken me to the 1964 Worlds Fair here in New York Citys Flushing Meadows Park.
A wise and considerate human being was my mother Helen, the heart of an angel.
There we journeyed to the Vatican Pavilion. Clasping my hand I recall my first impression of Michelangelo’s Pieta. Yes, his masterpiece had been on tour and was graciously seated feet from me and my precious mother Helen. It spurred an interest that still lives in me this very new year friends.
My hands are being guided by the need to create a voice in stone. This stone you see is named Ruins, a mixture of impressions made while I had traveled in cities of Antiquity. Traveleing in Italy, Egypt , Greece, I’ ve attempted to create a miniature of ancient Ruins.
This photo is my gift to all who see it, as we as brothers, sisters welcome our New Year 2012.
I bow to our lives, pray for our joys, travel in my heart for all that is good.
A Happy New Year, my dear friends,
Jerry Torre
The Marble Faun of Grey Gardens

I recently discovered Grey Gardens and am untterly hooked! I love the Edies and as you have said Jerry, their devotion to one another. As we were given this magical glimpse into their lives, we were able to see the complexity of what had come before. How wonderful to find your site! I signed up for your post update notifications-I look forward to reading your book as well as the others on our dear Staunch friends!
Yesterday, I had my mother, sister and aunt over to introduce them to the Edies and Grey Gardens by showing them the documentary. We laughed and cried!
I look forward to continuing to read about your memories of your times at Grey Gardens-how wonderful!
Warmly, Becky

Happy New Year, Jerry
My father worked for a company based in Long Island City in 1964 (we lived in chicago). He went to the world’s fair and came back home and talked about the beauty of the Pieta for many years, all the rest of his life, really. As he described it, part of the amazing beauty was the way they had displayed it bathed in light which clearly showed the carved details. I think he said it was a blue light – do you remember anything like that? He said it was remarkable.
your friend,
Michael
Greetings Micheal,
If I may mention I ve a fondness for your name Micheal, it is very deep but I think you maighunderstand, it is my mind constantly driven.
Yes aside The Pieta stood two flooor lamps. These two standing lamps were aside thie stone.Just behind the Pieta was heavy drapery. The simply beautiful presentation of this masterpiece was everything and more to my eyes. The Worlds Fair had other wonderful sights, the General Electric Pavillion, The Sinclair Pavilion, which had life size dinosaurs, and with the push of aa button they would roar and move slighly.I recall the waffels they made, and a poll of trout where my brother and I caught a trout as soon as we dropped our lines into the pool.”Of course” Its a Small world after ”all has remained a song in my endless history.
Please allow me to thank you for looking at the website, as I love to share my life, with you.
fondly yours,,Jerry
Jerry,
I can imagine that this piece means a great deal to you because I recall in the movie, when you were talking to Mrs. Beale, you expressed concern about your mother, and that she had not been feeling well, and Mrs. Beale of course inquired about her, as a gracious lady would. Happy New Year to a very talented, sensitive soul —
Cheers and Blessings,
Catherine
Ruin’s is one of my favorite pieces you have done.

Wow Jerry, your work has come such a long way. Remember those days when we would talk about life and our hopes and dreams? And carving inevitably became a topic. All I could say was “DO IT! Just DO IT!” and now look at the collection of work you’ve amassed since then. Amazing.
I’m nothing but proud. Miss you, my friend.
