~~Time is ours a precious gift~~

Georgica Beach Edie sits here during her youth. The beach was walking distance from Grey Gardens. We both had swam in the same surf days during the filming. The dusk of the day when the light was rich with blues of high clouds, sea birds would swoop and sound there call. I always found it a delight to sit with Mrs.Beale late just as true night fall would cover the mansion. Just being in the company on such a diverse person who had such a rich heritage of the human experience. These days were the most magical days of my life. I owe these memories to Mrs.Beale & her daughter Edie Beale.

Simply the finest human beings I have known, your devoted Marble Faun

  1. Dear Jerry,

You truly were given a gift to know these ladies. Did it feel as if they had stopped a clock and visiting their home was as if seeing a long time past? They lived their life where they spoke to one another reminscing on times gone by and you were so blessed for them to share these with you.

Maybe what you found there was a Peace that most of us no longer know? To be from such a fortunate family I bet they had enchanting memories to share. Edie truly was the beauty in the family. One thing that struck me about having been in their impoverished state was what a beautiful white smile that Little Edie possessed. I feel so sorry that she didn’t get to audition further for Max Gordon. You could tell she could have been a great actress. That however would have meant leaving Grey Gardens.

Hoping you are living a life full of love, hope, and happiness.

    Sincerely,
    Dawn

  2. Jerry-
This is the only and first time I have posted on the internet- on this site. It’s the only groug/blog thing I’ve ever wanted!! Thanks for the cool pics. I esp. love the vintage ones of GG and of course, Little Edie is a knock out in her youth!!! She’s a beauty anyway. Anyday.
The mystery of the past , this place, is active and alive today. So cool to have you, Jerry, as a witness to this amazing documentary. I think I’m obsessed with it, and the Beales, though in a healthy way. More just curiosity and admiration. I find them kindred folk. Finally….. a blog I want to see!!!

  3. Thanks for taking the time to post these fantastic photos. I have never seen the one of Little Edie on the beach. Who are the 2 men on the porch and what is Little Edie reading?

    take care..nancy

    • Hi Nancy ,This collage has images of scenes during the Grey Gardens legacy. Those two men were from the Town Of Brookhaven deapt. of Health. It was an ultimatum presented to Edie on what action needed to be taken in order for the board of health to find the mansion habital, and fit to be lived in.It was a time table of sorts mentioning dates , days in which certain criterior need be addressed.
All in all it was a statement to clean up the place, or they would have been evicted from there mansion. That of course did not happen, all it needed was a few dozen gaarbage bags and a strong back. I provided the labor at no charge. It was my duty to help my buddies in there time of distress. It was reaally easy, andMrs.Beale did apprciate it so much.
      yours,jerry

  4. Hey, buddy. From my subscription, got the email that you did a new post, so here I am. Love the photos… who’s that little boy in the lower right? Looks like it could be YOU, or one of the little Beale sons! I’ve been thinking about you this whole weekend and hope you devoted it to more writing? :)
Have a good week to come.
    Best,
    Gloria
